2,167 of these vans were built in the mid 1930s for general goods traffic. Unusually for 10ft wheel base vehicles they still retained wooden chassis. Originally they were non-pool and had to be returned to the LNER system, although by 1937 this restriction no longer applied and they were used throughout Britain. They were substantially built and many lasted into the mid 1960s.
